Forget Bristol City deal, Ipswich should turn their attention to Plymouth after recent development: Opinion | OneFootball

It may not quite be as exciting and hectic as last summer but we can expect the upcoming transfer window to be a busy one for Ipswich Town as they prepare for another season in League One.

Kieran McKenna is likely to have the full support of the Ipswich board after an impressive start to life at Portman Road – with performances on the pitch improving even though a proper play-off push never materialised.

The former Manchester United coach will know that the results will need to change next term to match the improved performances and he’ll want to shape his squad in the summer accordingly.

Central midfield is likely to be an area that he looks to strengthen and Plymouth Argyle’s announcement yesterday that Panutche Camará is available for transfer should influence his plans.

Ipswich signed Tyreeq Bakinson from Bristol City on loan in the summer and the League One club do have the option of making that deal permanent.

They should hold off on that and use their resources to pursue a deal for Camará instead.

The dynamic central midfielder has been excellent for Argyle this season – finishing the 2021/22 campaign with four goals and six assists on top of his vital defensive contributions.

As well as providing more goal contributions, the box-to-box midfielder averages more tackles (1.6) and key passes (1.4) per game and has finished the season with a better pass completion rate (82.4%).

His consistency for Plymouth has made him a standout player and that’s something the City loanee has lacked throughout his career.

Bringing both to the club could be an ideal scenario, with Bakinson two years younger than the 25-year-old, but Camará should be the priority.

It would be a surprise if there wasn’t Championship interest in him but as we saw last summer, Ipswich now have the financial might to compete with second-tier clubs and potentially even blow them out of the water.

They should look to flex that here and bring the Argyle midfielder to Portman Road as he has all the attributes to help McKenna take Ipswich back up next term.
