Nottingham Forest squeeze past Bristol City on penalties

Nottingham Forest tentatively edged past Championship side Bristol City, beating them 5-3 on penalties after a draw in normal time.

Scorers: Origi 8′ ; Knight 14′

Forest took an early lead inside 10 minutes from a corner when Divock Origi touched home a headed flick at the post from Felipe.

The away side fought back almost instantly, with former Derby midfielder Jason Knight leveling the terms with a first time finish.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Neco Williams combined to almost set up the winner for Forest but Williams’ effort was unable to find the target after some good build up play; forcing extra time.

It was Bristol City’s turn to almost steal the lead when Nahki Wells was found by a beautiful ball across goal for a tap in, but the forward fluffed his lines at the last moment.

Neither side could find the all important winner, meaning penalties would determine who would host Manchester United in the 5th round.

Matt Turner was the hero of the night, saving Sam Bell’s spot kick to ensure that Awoniyi could score Forest’s fifth penalty to put his side through.

Chelsea turn on the style at Villa Park

Chelsea put on a dominant performance to see off Aston Villa at Villa Park and progress to the 5th round of the FA Cup.

Scorers: Diaby 90+1′ ; Gallagher 11′, Jackson 21′, Fernández 54′

Chelsea started clinically, taking the lead with their first chance of the game as Conor Gallagher placed a fine effort into the top left corner after being found by Noni Madueke.

The West London side doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Nicolas Jackson headed home a fine cross from Malo Gusto into the bottom left corner.

If Aston Villa fans hoped the second half would bring an end to their awful start to the game, they were sadly mistaken as Chelsea made it 3-0 shortly after the break.

Enzo Fernández curled a beautiful freekick into the top left corner from distance to all but end Villa’s FA Cup run.

The home side managed to claw back a consolation goal in injury time as Moussa Diaby slotted home to finish off a smart corner kick routine.

Mauricio Pochettino’s blues will take on Leeds United at Stamford Bridge in the 5th round.
