AC Milan fans have reason for optimism regarding the RedBird Capital takeover as the potential for growth is even higher than that of Chelsea, a report claims.

The American magazine Forbes looked at the changes in ownership of Milan and Chelsea, with both having gone into American hands as RedBird bought the Rossoneri while the Todd Boehly-led Clearlake Capital group bought the Blues.

RedBird have managed to quadruple the value of Toulouse in the two years they have been their owners, taking them from the €20m they paid for the purchase up to the current €80m valuation.

Forbes then underlined the great work done by Elliott in the financial field which has elevated Milan to being a healthy club from an economic point of view after years of mismanagement. The magazine stated that the two clubs will both improve in the long term, but the Rossoneri have the potential for quicker growth.

“The sale of AC Milan is a better bargain than the recent purchase of Chelsea FC,” they added. “Chelsea are more profitable than AC Milan, which likely posted slightly positive operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) in 2021 versus perhaps more than $40 million in operating income for Chelsea.”

However, Chelsea were being bankrolled by their now former Russian owner Roman Abramovich, while Milan were self-financed.

“In the long term, AC Milan and Chelsea will both appreciate in value. But the Italian club will likely do so much more quickly than the English one,” the report added.
