And, after beating Malaga on the final day of the season, one of the most awkward moments in football history occurred.
Carles Puyol picked up the trophy but he didn’t want to lift it himself.
He wanted Eric Abidal to lift it with manager, Tito Vilanova.
The Frenchman went through a lot in his football career, He was diagnosed with cancer in March 2011 and underwent surgery.
Exactly a year later, the left-back had to undergo a liver transplant, putting him out of action for 13 months.
He was able to recover and finally returned to the first-team picture in April 2013.
So, Puyol had the lovely idea of letting Abidal lift the La Liga trophy with Vilanova, who also had a number of health problems himself.
But, Alex Song thought that Puyol wanted him to lift the trophy instead.
Song walked forward with a beaming smile on his face, only for Puyol to grab Abidal’s hand instead.
The Cameroonian managed to style it out well as he slowly moved backwards and clapped his teammate.

Nine years on and it’s still so awkward it’s painful.
Abidal departed the club later that summer. It was a lovely gesture from Puyol and Abidal went on to admit that lifting the trophy was the best moment of his Barcelona career.
“The best memory I have here is when I lifted the league trophy with Tito [Vilanova],” he said, per Marca.
“Also, in the last match I played here I was able to bring my cousin [who donated part of his liver to help the player’s recovery] out to the middle of the pitch and he deserved it.
“I managed to get a lot of people to applaud him and I think that represents what Barcelona is all about.”
