As if you needed any more reason to love N’Golo Kanté, Football Leaks have gone and showed just what an amazing guy he really is.
The Football Leaks revelations have showed the game to be a cesspool of awfulness but the antidote to all of that is everyone’s favourite Frenchman.
It’s been alleged that an offshore company was set up for Kanté for his image rights to be paid in to.
This tax haven would, they claim, have saved the 27-year-old nearly €1m per year on his salary.
But it’s emerged that Kanté allegedly refused to be a part of such scheme, despite Chelsea’s insistence.
The leaks from German magazine Der Spiegel say that the former Leicester man originally agreed to take part in the scheme but then refused to sign documents to complete the deal.
Instead, Kanté allegedly asked to be paid “a normal salary”.
In an email said to be from the World Cup winner’s tax adviser to Chelsea in May 2017, the adviser says Kanté is “increasingly concerned” about coming under investigation.
It is claimed that the email read: “After reading numerous press articles on image rights and tax investigations against players and clubs, N’Golo is increasingly concerned that [what was proposed to him] could be called into question by tax authorities.”
It is then alleged that Kanté subsequently agreed to be paid his image rights but through a British company that would pay corporation tax.
What a guy.
