A new Australian football fan representative and advocacy group is set to be created as supporters of ‘The Beautiful Game’ down under aim to tackle fan issues including the state of the game, its governance and its structure.

An initial working name and associated branding will be created under the title, Football Supporters Association Australia (FSAA) and it will be accompanied by a website and email register. There will also be a survey circulated in the coming weeks for fans and supporters to submit their initial thoughts, ideas and concerns.

This working group has been created after discussions took place with fans from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Wollongong and Perth. It was agreed that a more diverse working group be established, communication channels opened and networking with relevant stakeholders should commence.

It was also agreed that a future association model should be representative of all football fans in Australia at all levels including A-Leagues (Mens and Womens), NPL and grassroots as well as supporters of future second division clubs.

This news comes in light of earlier announcements that the governing body of the A-Leagues, the APL, were to commence meetings with active fan groups this week as they seek to find a way forward from the controversial decision to sell the A-Leagues Grand Finals to Sydney in a lucrative deal with Destination NSW and the NSW Government.
