Chelsea forward Sam Kerr will not be linking-up with the Australian national team in the current international window.

Football Australia have this evening issued an official press release which has confirmed that Kerr is struggling with a foot injury. It has been reported that the 30-year-old will remain with her club during the current international window and will receive treatment and support from the Chelsea medical staff.

Kerr was in action for Chelsea yesterday as they took on Leicester City in a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Kingsmeadow. The forward netted The Blues’ third goal in a 5-2 victory. She played the first 81 minutes of the match before being replaced by Jessie Fleming.

The player’s injury is not thought to be serious, however, Kerr’s fitness does require special care given her struggles going into the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 in the summer.

Kerr is one of four players to have been ruled out of international duty with Australia. West Ham United’s Mackenzie Arnold has an arm injury while Charlotte Grant (hamstring) and Holly McNamara (knee) are also out.

Australia are set to face back-to-back fixtures against Canada as they end their 2023 schedule. They first face the Canadians in Victoria on Friday before taking on the same opponents in Vancouver next Tuesday.
