Fonseca threatens ‘I will play Primavera players if I need to’ in post-Red Star rant | OneFootball

Paulo Fonseca sait that he will call up players from Milan’s Primavera and Futuro teams if he needs to while publicly calling out his senior players after Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory over Red Star in the Champions League.

Though Milan have now won four matches in a row in the Champions League, Fonseca was not best pleased with what he saw from his players at home against Red Star, questioning his squad’s attitude and their commitment on the pitch.

Fonseca suggested that some of his players did not ‘give everything for the shirt’ and that they went against their ‘obligation’ to leave everything they have out on the pitch.

Fonseca questions Milan attitude: ‘If I need to play Primavera players, I will’

Like a disappointed parent, Fonseca said that he was disappointed rather than angry or sad, but called upon some of his players to fix their attitude.

“I’m obviously happy with the result, it’s the fourth consecutive victory in the Champions League, we’re in a good position to move forwards, but I’m not happy with everything else,” Fonseca said during his post-match press conference. Football Italia were among the accredited media.

“When we come into a decisive game like this, and we have this kind of attitude where we don’t give everything for the shirt, things start to become difficult. I didn’t like what we did as a team, we have an obligation to leave everything on the pitch,” he continued.

When asked to explain why he thinks his players have an attitude problem, Fonseca replied: “I don’t want to go into details, I’ll tell the players what I think.

“I’m not angry, I’m sad. I’m not angry, because we won, but other than that I didn’t see anything that I wanted from the team. I don’t want to go into tiny details today, it’s better not to.

“I will never stop. I always have a clear conscience, because I’m giving everything for Milan.. If I need to play the Primavera players of the Milan Futuro players, I will. I have no problem doing that.”
