Paulo Fonseca spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s clash against Slovan Bratislava, sharing his thoughts on the XI rotation, the importance of the game and the Champions League standings.
After two wins and two defeats in the competitions, the Rossoneri are now in a good position as the ‘tough games’ are behind. The win against Real Madrid certainly gave them a big boost but without a good result tonight, that win will mean nothing.
Speaking to Sky ahead of tonight’s game, as cited by MilanNews, Fonseca said that this is what Alessandro Florenzi told his teammates in the locker room. The manager also discussed the squad rotation given the tight schedule.
Seven changes compared to Juve…
“We have a lot of games now, the players have also played for the national team. We need to manage them, while always thinking about winning. I don’t think there is anyone who wants to win more than me, I think I have chosen the right team to win here.”
What did you say to each other after Saturday?
“We talked about the match, we have to understand that playing against Juve is a specific match. Today will be very different. We have to respect the opponent and think that these are important points. Florenzi said in the locker room that we can only give meaning to the victory against Real Madrid if we win here. I want to see this ambition.”
Are you aiming for the top 8 in the UCL?
“We have to take it game by game. Today, it’s important to win and only after that can we think about other things. Game by game, if we don’t win here it is useless to talk about the other games.”
When will Milan be able to play matches without being influenced by the previous one?
“When there is a sequence of matches, it’s like this. I spoke about Real because we need these three points. I think the matches are all different but the points are the same. We have to find the motivation to always get three points.”
With it being an early game, we don’t have a watchalong but you can follow the game live on our site and X as always. Hopefully, we will have another UCL win to celebrate by the end of the evening.
