Roma manager Paulo Fonseca was interviewed by Sky Sport following the Giallorossi’s disappointing 0-0 draw against Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia in the Europa League this evening.
The Portuguese tactician admitted that his side were lacking something in attack.
“We didn’t have a good performance from an attacking standpoint,” rued Fonseca. ”We kept getting the final pass wrong.”
“Am I worried? The team is doing fine. We’ve played well in recent matches. Compared to last season, I think the team is much better.”
“We made many changes today but we didn’t play with the intensity that I want. In all, we’ve started the season well.”
Fonseca was then asked about Chris Smalling, who made his season debut, and Borja Mayoral, who started his second match of the season but was anonymous throughout.
”Smalling didn’t train much and didn’t have 90 minutes in his legs, but he did well. We’ll have to see how he recovers in the coming days before we decide if we will use him against Fiorentina.”
“On Borja, it’s his second match from the start. He’s still young and needs to adapt to our football. He needs time.”
