Fonseca: Milan ‘dominated’ and ‘deserved’ 3-2 victory over Slovan Bratislava

Paulo Fonseca believes that Milan were the dominant of the two sides during their 3-2 win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and feels his team were fully deserving of their victory.

The Rossoneri picked up a 3-2 win away in Slovakia after goals from Christian Pulisic, one off the bench from Rafael Leao and a first Champions League goal of the season for Tammy Abraham shortly afterwards.

Mian conceded less than three minutes after their opener, though, and also conceded just shy of the 90th minute as Slovan looked to fight back before being reduced to 10 men.

Fonseca: Milan ‘dominated throughout the game’

The Rossoneri coach felt that the 3-2 scoreline somewhat flattered Milan’s opposition, and claimed that the referee failed to spot a foul in the build-up to Slovan’s second goal of the game.

“I think we dominated throughout the game. We changed a lot of players and we did things positively. There are things we need to improve on, maybe because we changed so much. We didn’t do well in preventative marking, but we improved after the break,” Fonseca said at full-time.

“We deserved to win and there was a clear error by the referee before the last goal. I think we deserved to finish with a different result.”

Fonseca is also pleased with what he saw from Rafael Leao, who was left on the bench, but was then introduced at half-time and scored the goal that put Milan back in front just over 20 minutes later.

“I always talk with Rafa, he knows why he didn’t play today. He understood, and when he came on he was decisive. I think that’s what we all want. I’m happy. Even when he’s on the bench he always wants to help the team and that’s really positive.”
