Milan coach Paulo Fonseca was fuming at a post-match press conference after a 2-1 loss against Fiorentina and insisted that Christian Pulisic should take penalty kicks for the Rossoneri.
Milan suffered a 2-1 loss in Florence on Sunday night, seeing the Tuscans’ keeper David De Gea save two penalty kicks. He denied Theo Hernandez in the first half and Tammy Abraham in the second half.
Milan players decided to change the designated penalty kick taker, given that UMSNT international Pulisic usually shows up from the spot.
Fonseca was fuming after the final whistle. He didn’t only complain about referees’ decisions and soft penalty kicks but also raged at his players.
During a press conference attended by Football Italia, Fonseca said: “Of course I am upset [that players changed the penalty kick taker]. Christian [Pulisic] should take penalties. It must never happen again, and I told the players.”
Matteo Gabbia joined Fonseca for a post-match press conference and confirmed that the Portuguese addressed the issue inside the dressing room after the game. However, he didn’t reveal precisely what the coach told his players.
Their next league game after the international break is against Udinese at San Siro on October 19.
