Harry Souttar gives verdict on Stoke City future amid transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking in an interview as quoted by The West Australian (h/t Stoke Sentinel), Harry Souttar claims that he is focused on Stoke City despite interest from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs, along with fellow Premier League Aston Villa and Everton, have taken an interest in the 22-year-old defender. Souttar signed for the Potters back in 2016.

But it wasn’t until last year that he made his name in Stoke’s first team. The Australian international is aware of the interest from other clubs but claims that he isn’t distracted by ‘paper talk’.

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Stoke City defender, Harry Souttar.

“I think it’s just all paper talk to be honest with you. There was a lot of things said but I tend not to try and read it or try and get involved in it at all. We just started October, the transfer market’s been and gone. My focus right now is solely on the Socceroos and as soon as I get back to club football it’s purely on Stoke City and trying to get the club promoted back to the Premier League.”

Australian national team coach Graham Arnold has also acknowledged the recent interest in the 22-year-old from Premier League clubs, stating to the Sydney Morning Herald (h/t Stoke Sentinel):

“There were a few whispers just before we went to the Olympics about a few Premier League clubs (being interested), and he’s gone back to Stoke City, he’s doing exceptionally well.”

Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero are two exciting centre-backs for the future but Tottenham did lose Toby Alderweireld this summer after already losing Jan Vertonghen to SL Benfica last year.

And in that regard, Souttar can provide some good backup to Nuno Espirito Santo in his defence. But it remains to be seen if Spurs actually do make a charge for the youngster amidst the possibility of a transfer battle with other English teams.
