Real Madrid have decided to make Paul Pogba their main midfield target, putting a move for Christian Eriksen on the back-burner.
The Spanish giants have already spent around £300m (€335m) this summer, bringing in Eden Hazard, Luka Jović, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militão.
However, they aren’t done yet.
A big effort is needed to revamp the squad after a disappointing season and Zinedine Zidane has freedom to lead the changes after returning as head coach.
According to Goal, a midfielder is still wanted and the club have decided to make Pogba their prime target. That means a potential move for Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen is now unlikely.
Interest in the Dane has “cooled”, the report claims.
Speaking in Japan last week, Pogba admitted his time at Manchester United could be up.
“After this season and everything that happened, with my season being my best season, it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else,” the 26-year-old told reporters.
Juventus are also interested in the midfielder, who they sold to Manchester United three years ago. Funds are likely to be tight, though, as they hope to seal a move for Ajax defender Matthija de Ligt.
Before pursuing Pogba, Madrid will need to offload players and recoup some of the money already spent this window.
The likes of Gareth Bale, Isco and James Rodríguez are all up for sale.
