In an annual survey conducted by kicker, 218 Bundesliga players are given different topics to vote for anonymously, including best player, most disappointing and many more topics. Here are the results:
When it came to who was the best player in the Bundesliga this season, 28.2% voted Florian Wirtz as the Bundesliga player of the season. Last week, the 22-year-old was also voted Bundesliga Player of the Season by the VDV (the German Football Players Association), for the second season in a row. Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise was second in the vote with 26.4%.
Other notable names were Omar Marmoush (4.2%), Serhou Guirassy (4.2%), Harry Kane (3.7%) and Nick Woltemade (3.7%).
The players were also given the chance to vote for the most disappointing player of the season. Leading the way was Bayern’s João Palhinha. The midfielder received 13.4%, with the next highest being Julian Brandt with 10.2%. The rest of the top five were Victor Boniface (6.9%), Deniz Undav (5.6%) and Xavi Simons (4.6%). What is worth noting is that most of the voting was spread out this year, as in the past two years, Naby Keita (25%) and Sadio Mané (41.7%) were the highest scores.
Julian Schuster won the best coach of the season with 31.5%, followed by Bo Henriksen, Vincent Kompany, Niko Kovac and Dino Toppmöller. While Nuri Şahin was voted the loser among coaches with 34.7% of the vote. The former Borussia Dortmund manager was followed by Ralph Hasenhüttl, Marco Rose, Christian Ilzer and Peter Ziedler (who coached Bochum at the beginning of the season).
Finally, the surprise club of the season was Mainz, which received 49.5% of the votes. The other two teams were SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. While the inverse saw Hoffenheim lead the way for the most disappointing with 48.1%, followed by RB Leipzig and then Wolfsburg.
