New Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz insists his £116 million price tag does not bother him as he looks ahead to his first season in the Premier League.
The German midfielder joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record fee this summer after an impressive few seasons in the Bundesliga.
He is adamant the pressure that comes with the price tag does not bother him and he is ready to perform for the defending champions next season.
Florian Wirtz interviewed at Anfield
“I don’t think about the price tag, I just want to play football,” he said.
“How much money the clubs pay between each other does not matter to me – I just want to play football.”
Wirtz is not the only signing Liverpool have made this summer. Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike have also come in to bolster the Liverpool squad that won the league last year.
Ekitike also played in the Bundesliga last season and Wirtz is excited to link up with the French forward.
“I enjoyed watching him at Frankfurt. I was really happy he decided to come to us and the training. sessions already went really well.”
Slot’s new signings played together for the first time in a pre-season win over Spanish side Atheltic Bilbao.
Wirtz added: “We had some good combinations that were good. I am really happy I can play with him.”
Liverpool won the Premier League by ten points last season and the Germany international says he believes his main reason for joining is to help his new side win back-to-back titles.
“The big challenge is to take the title again and that is the most difficult thing but I just try to create chances.”
The attacking midfielder also talked about what he will bring to this Liverpool squad: “I also work when we have not got the ball because I can run a lot and I try to bring this to the team.
“With the ball I hope I can make the team better and create better attacking situations.”
