Bayer Leverkusen could well keep hold of Florian Wirtz longer than expected. Hans-Joachim Wirtz, father and advisor to the generational talent, has offered a promising update to Bayer fans.

“Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027. That will also roughly be the amount of time he will spend in Leverkusen,” Hans-Joachim Wirtz, Florian’s father, told Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, via Kicker. “Then we will see where the path leads. There is no answer to what happens then.”

Despite interest from Europe’s top clubs, including Bayern Munich, Wirtz appears to have blocked out all of the noise with his sole focus on helping Bayer Leverkusen lift their first ever trophy.

Die Werkself could see them lift the treble come the end of the season with them in the latter stages of the DFB Pokal and Europa League. Xabi Alonso’s side could also find themselves 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga if they beat neighbouring FC Köln on Sunday.

A large part of their success has been down to Wirtz. The 20-year-old, who joined from Köln in January 2020, has 25 goal contributions (eight goals and 17 assists) in 31 games across all competitions for Leverkusen this season.

As reported in December, Wirtz wants to at least play Champions League football with Bayer Leverkusen before taking the next step in his career, although he and his entourage are aware of interest from Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona.
