Real Madrid sealed their 36th La Liga title during the weekend after a convincing win over Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu. The celebrations, however, have been subdued given the UCL game coming midweek.

Irrespective of what happens against Bayer Munich, it is safe to say that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have endured a successful season with an impeccable win record.

The future only looks more promising. With Kylian Mbappe set to arrive in June with a couple of other big names, Real Madrid look set to dominate Spanish and European football.

The untouched record

Of the last 20 leagues, Barcelona have won 11 and Real Madrid have won seven, with the remaining two going Atletico Madrid’s way.

The Merengues, thus, wish to change the dynamic in the coming years by dominating La Liga, and in the process, hope to break one of the few records that Florentino Perez does not have to his name.

Never in the president’s tenure have Real Madrid won two La Liga titles in consecutive years, and Perez has thus set the challenge to his players to turn it around.

The idea would be to dominate Spain the way Manchester City and Bayern Munich dominate England and Germany respectively.

No competition

Barcelona have historically been the team to compete neck to neck with Real Madrid and thus pose the biggest threat to their chances.

The Catalans, however, are no longer the same in either an economic or sporting sense. With a massive rebuild ahead and no funds to process the same, it will likely take some time before the Blaugranas are back on their feet.

The plan, thus, is to maximise the current situation and establish Real Madrid as the biggest club in Spain beyond doubt.
