Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed satisfaction after his team secured an important victory against Brest, putting themselves in a strong position to advance in the Champions League.

With three group stage games remaining, the win not only helped the Catalans recover from a tough outing against Celta but also showcased their ability to respond under pressure.

Flick acknowledged the team’s effort, highlighting their dominance in scoring three goals and hinting they could have added even more.

“I’m very happy. We deserved it with the three goals, we could have scored more, but I’m happy because coming from the game against Celta and putting in this performance is very good,” he began saying.

Robert Lewandowski’s performance was a significant talking point, as his brace brought him into the elite group of players with 100 Champions League goals.

Flick attributed Lewandowski’s success to the team’s support, emphasising their role in creating opportunities for the Polish striker.

“The team helps Robert to score these goals. He is responsible, he knows he has to score them and he is in the right position to do so. The team is wonderful.”

Another standout from the match was Gerard Martin, who bounced back after facing criticism in the previous game against Celta, where he was substituted at half-time to avoid a second yellow card.

Flick appreciated Martín’s response, commending his solid performance and noting how he took the opportunity to prove his quality.

“It was good that Gerard had the opportunity to play. He did very well,” he noted.

On Casado and Pedri

The midfield partnership of Marc Casado and Pedri also drew attention, with their synergy playing a crucial role in controlling the game.

Flick stated that their quality on the pitch didn’t come as a surprise, as he witnesses their impressive abilities in training daily. Pedri’s control of the game and Casado’s contributions, including a goal, were key highlights.

“I see them every day in training and they are very good. Pedri has been incredible with the ball and Dani has scored. I am very happy,” he commented.

“He’s a fantastic player. It was very important for us to control the game and Pedri did it very well. All the midfield players were spectacular,” he explained.

Frenkie de Jong’s fitness remains a concern, with Flick acknowledging the Dutchman’s hard work in his recovery process. While de Jong is not yet at full strength, Flick hinted at a possible return soon, depending on his progress.

“What I have to say is that he’s working very hard to get back. He’s not 100 percent. He needs to get back to his best level. I’m sure he’ll get there. We’ll keep an eye on him.”

“Frenkie needs to recover a bit more, he might play on Saturday. The important thing is the whole team. We want all the players to get back to their best level.”

Finally, Flick briefly touched on his post-match discussion with Lamine Yamal, expressing his hope that the young talent will be available for the upcoming clash against Las Palmas.

“I told him that I hope he will be with us on Saturday against Las Palmas,” he concluded.
