“Italy is doing well. They have a big squad and can build their team over the next few years. We are under more pressure due to the World Cup and I’m sure that we will make a good development over the next few months.”

On Kimmich and Goretzka tiredness

“I honestly don’t have the feeling they’re tired. On the one hand we need a certain stability but on the other hand we also have to see how everyone is doing, then we’ll make a decision.”

On Germany’s lack of goals

“You could also say that we’re scoring a goal in every game. It’s more of a fundamental problem than personnel. We need more conviction in our attacks. We have to make sure we win the ball high up the pitch and create chances.”

On Adeyemi and Nmecha

“Karim still has to develop further. At the moment Lukas Nmecha is a bit ahead and very committed in training. Karim has to take the next step at BVB.”

On playing Havertz as a striker

“Kai Havertz is a very intelligent player who knows exactly which spaces to go into. There’s just a lack of determination and conviction to finish the chances. The freshness after a long season is missing as well.”

On Raum’s form

“He started two games in a row with us for the first time. Two years ago he was still playing second division. He has convinced against England. He still has potential but we are absolutely happy with him. He’s one of the players who work very hard.”
