Speaking to journalist Sebastian Bergmann, Bayer Leverkusen's Mark Flekken feels he is settling into his new surroundings since his summer move from Brentford.

“I feel comfortable on the pitch. We're still in the pre-season and everything has to gel first. But we'll make sure that everything works out when the [first] DFB Pokal round starts.

"I feel good in training, and if I can transfer that to the pitch, then you can see it from the outside too. [My first weeks here were] good, but also difficult, because a lot has changed within the team.

"We have a new coach who wants to play a slightly different style than Xabi Alonso. That has to gel a little more each week, but we'll get there,” he added.

When asked on whether he prefers a three or a four back formation in front of him, the 32-year-old gave preference to a four-man rearguard, stating it suits his play style better.

“From a footballing point of view, I personally would prefer a back four because then I can really play in the middle between the two center backs.

"But you can also turn a back three into a de facto back four if a full-back pushes up. That's why we're very flexible and try to train that way,” Flekken explained.
