Fleetwood Town manager Scott Brown is reportedly attracting interest from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Brown is one of the names under consideration should Hibernian decide to part company with under-pressure manager Lee Johnson.

Brown was handed his first managerial post at Fleetwood in May and he has won 10, drawn 15 and lost 12 of his 37 games in charge in all competitions.

However, the Cod Army are currently on a poor run of form having lost four of their last five league games and currently sit 17th in the League One table, just two points above the relegation zone. The last of those defeats was the 3-2 home loss to fellow strugglers Burton Albion on Saturday, with the Brewers scoring a 96th-minute winner to secure all three points.

The 37-year-old started his career at Hibernian before departing for Celtic in 2007, scoring 46 goals in 619 appearances and winning multiple trophies during his time in Glasgow.

He ended his playing days with Aberdeen whilst also taking up a coaching role at Pittodrie, before moving south of the border to take the top job at Highbury Stadium.

Former Bristol City and Sunderland boss Johnson has come under scrutiny at Hibernian in recent months, although their form has recently improved and they currently sit fifth in the Scottish Premiership table after a five-game unbeaten run in the league.

Johnson has won 12, drawn four and lost 14 of his 30 games in charge at Easter Road since his arrival in May.

Nixon says that Hibs would love to bring Brown back to Edinburgh, but as he has settled in Lancashire, it may be difficult to convince him to return.

The Verdict

It will be intriguing to see if Hibernian make a move for Brown.

While he has done a decent job at Fleetwood and has made them well-organised and hard to beat, particularly against some of the bigger sides in the division, recent form has been a cause for concern with his side sliding down the table.

With that in mind, it is slightly surprising to see him linked with a job in the Scottish top flight, but his connections with Hibernian perhaps explain the interest and he will be faced with a big decision should they make an approach.

However, Brown needs to focus on improving his current side’s form, otherwise his position at Fleetwood could become increasingly precarious.
