Fleetwood Town owner reveals key reason for bringing ex-Celtic player to the club | OneFootball

Fleetwood Town owner and chairman Andy Pilley has revealed the key reason the club hired ex-Celtic midfielder Scott Brown as their new boss is because he is a proven winner.

Brown was named Michael Appleton’s replacement in the dugout after their former boss was let go at the end of the League One season.

Speaking following the appointment, chairman Pilley has said be believes Brown is an “outstanding appointment” for the club.

“We think Scott is an outstanding appointment.” Pilley told the Blackpool Gazette.

“We wanted someone who is a proven winner and Scott is definitely that, 23 trophies is just unreal, it’s exceptional. We just wanted a leader of men.

“When I think of a leader of men I think of Scott Brown because he just epitomises what a club captain should be and I’m sure he can take that skill set into management.”

Scott Brown is certainly a winner, having won 10 Scottish Premiership’s, six Scottish cup’s and seven Scottish league cup’s during his illustrious Celtic career.

Most recently, the 36-year-old, who made over 600 appearances for the Scottish giants, occupied a player/coaching role at Aberdeen for the 2021/22 season.

The Verdict

Scott Brown was certainly a surprising name to hear being linked with the Fleetwood Town vacancy when rumours first surfaced last week.

It felt like it was out of left field, but having read Andy Pilley’s comments above, it is clear that Brown fits the profile of the man he wants in the dugout at Highbury Stadium.

Fleetwood are a club with plenty of ambition, and bringing in a young, hungry manager who has been a winner throughout his career could prove to be a masterstroke for the Cod Army.

It will certainly be interesting to watch how Scott Brown gets on in League One next season.
