Gerson’s long goodbye at Flamengo began with victory over América Mineiro at the Maracanã on Sunday.

The Marseille-bound midfielder produced a fine performance as goals from Bruno Henrique and Rodrigo Muniz maintained the Rubro-Negro’s 100% start to the Brasileirão season.

Speaking after the game, the 24-year-old claimed that he hopes to return to play for the Mengão again before he hangs up his boots.

“I made a dream come true, of having the opportunity to wear the sacred robe,” Gerson said, per Gazeta Esportiva.

“I hope to return one day. Very happy for everything I lived in here. I hope Flamengo continues to achieve many things.”
