Flamengo have made contact to sign former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial after Pedro Guilherme suffered a serious knee injury, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Martial spent nine seasons with the Red Devils, but he parted ways with the club this summer following the expiry of his contract. The club decided against triggering his extension clause.
The Frenchman has since remained a free agent, but Flamengo are offering him a return to competitive football after an anterior cruciate ligament injury for Pedro.
The seven-time Brazilian champions have approached to sign the Monaco graduate, who is reportedly considering several options for his future.
The 28-year-old had a good career with United, registering 90 goals and 47 assists from 317 appearances.
However, he was largely injury-prone in the last few years, which paved the way for his exit. The club decided against triggering a 12-month option.
The Glazers voluntarily activated the extension clause in the past to preserve transfer value, but INEOS have come with a stringent approach since taking over sporting operations at the club.
Martial can be a menace for opposition defences on his day and could join Flamengo on a short-term deal to prove his credentials before returning to Europe.
If he can stay unscathed and make regular goal contributions, there is a good possibility that he could attract high-profile offers from the Premier League.
