Flamengo are close to finally announcing the departure of promising striker Lincoln, who, unfortunately, is best known for his heartbreaking extra-time miss at the Club World Cup final against Liverpool.
In the next few days, the rubro-negro are expected to announce Lincoln’s permanent transfer to Japanese side Vissel Kobe, who are headlined by Barcelona and Spain legend Andrés Iniesta.
Though Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati attempted to bring the 20-year-old in on loan, a move which the Flamengo board preferred, Lincoln made the decision to head to Japan.
After some back-and-forth dealings, Vissel Kobe made a proposal to sign Lincoln permanently. According to the Rio de Janeiro press, the Japanese side will pay $3m (R$15.6m) for 75% of the attacker’s rights.
Lincoln has been training separately from the first-team squad since he turned 20. Prior to that, he had been assigned to the U-20s, a move which he originally rejected, an action which spelled the end of his Flamengo career.
