After spending all day wondering whether or not the match would be played, Flamengo got the ball rolling in Lima, recording a 2-0 victory over Sporting Cristal behind closed doors.

Though the match did not start off in an exciting way, Flamengo would go ahead just before the half-hour mark through Bruno Henrique, who banged home a beautiful ground cross from Matheuzinho.

Despite the goal, the game continued at a lukewarm pace and Flamengo went into the break ahead 1-0, with the home side coming close to scoring in the 40th minute, requiring Hugo Souza to make a kick save.

Lázaro, one of Flamengo’s best young talents, would come into the match late and make a huge impact, going on a sensational run before finding Matheuzinho, who delivered the finishing blow in the 87th minute.

Flamengo will now focus on their 2022 Brasileirão campaign, which will start this Saturday when they travel to Atlético Goianiense.
