Flamengo have moved to quell speculation surrounding the future of manager Domènec Torrent.

The Catalan has endured a rocky start to his tenure with the Rubro-Negro, and came under increased scrutiny following Thursday’s 5-0 capitulation to Ecuadorian side Independiente Del Valle in the Copa Libertadores.

However, following discussions at boardroom level, vice-president of football Marcos Braz has insisted that Torrent’s position is secure.

“Dome is part of our planning, and we already have the game plan against Palmeiras [next Sunday in the Brasileirão],” Braz said.

“The departure of the Dome was never discussed at any time. There is unity within the board.

“Everyone came to work. We had extensive meetings to discuss part of the awards and other things that are considered important. And this hypothesis (dismissal of the Dome) was never considered.”

Braz acknowledged the anger with Flamengo’s form since Torrent was appointed after Jorge Jesus departed for Benfica.

But the official also called for patience as Torrent gets to grips with the task at hand.

“This is all part of an integration process, a work philosophy that needs maturation.

“I understand the fans, I understand the team-mates and all segments. Dissatisfaction with the result that passed. The board and I respect these positions.

“But we also have to be a little bit colder because we have information, internal analysis. We know that we need time to build.

“And this time, today, is being given. Dome’s relationship with the squad is good,” Braz added.

Flamengo have remained in Ecuador ahead of Tuesday’s crunch Copa clash with Barcelona SC.
