Flamengo receive solidarity payment after Lucas Paquetá joins Lyon

On Wednesday, Ligue 1 giants and reigning Champions League semi-finalists Lyon announced the signing of midfielder Lucas Paquetá from AC Milan.

The former Flamengo star joined Lyon for a rumoured €21m, which also includes a sell-on clause.

Of course, since Flamengo developed the player, they are entitled to a payment due to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism.

Though it’s not believed that their original deal included a sell-on clause, Flamengo will receive roughly R$5.2 m (around €800,000) as a result of the sale.

Paquetá is now the second former Flamengo player on Lyon’s roster, joining defensive midfielder Jean Lucas, who joined for €8m in 2019 after spending time on loan with Santos.

At AC Milan, Paquetá featured 44 times, scoring just a single goal.
