Gabigol, now plying his trade at Cruzeiro, welcomed a pair of familiar faces from his Flamengo days for a light-hearted reunion on Thursday. Former colleagues Rodrigo Muniz and Werton, both products of Flamengo’s youth setup, dropped by to catch up with their old teammate—a gathering that was well-documented on social media.
Muniz, currently on Fulham’s books in England, brought along a Fulham shirt for Gabigol, reciprocated in kind with a Cruzeiro kit in return. Werton, however, arrived empty-handed, which turned into a moment of banter between the trio. In a video clip, Gabigol joked: “You didn’t bring a shirt for me. So what now? Where’s my shirt? Muniz came all the way from England and brought me one, and you brought nothing.” The playful exchange encapsulated the easy camaraderie the trio shared during their overlapping time at Flamengo.
Although each player’s career has since taken a different direction, their bond was formed at Flamengo, where Gabigol was the focal point in attack and both Muniz and Werton cut their teeth in the senior squad. Muniz broke into the first team in 2020 before making the move to Fulham the following year. Werton ascended to the senior side in 2021, and, after a spell with the club, joined Leixões in Portugal in 2024.
The get-together served as both a reminder of Flamengo’s depth of academy talent and the enduring relationships that often transcend the playing field. Gabigol, for his part, looked visibly pleased to reconnect, sharing the moment with fans online and drawing attention to the journeys his fellow “Garotos do Ninho” have charted across Europe.
