Flamengo present new signing David Luiz: Right decision; life more peaceful here | OneFootball

David Luiz is delighted with his move to Flamengo.

After coming off contract at Arsenal, Luiz signed a two-season deal with Fla last week. He had spent months in talks with clubs across Europe. Olympique Marseille, former club Benfica and Turkey's promoted Adana Demirspor were all in contact with Luiz as he mulled over his options,

However, the former Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain defender has chosen to return home to Brazil and sign for Fla. It will be the first time Luiz has played his club football in Brazil in over 14 years, having been signed by Benfica from Vitoria in 2007.

Quoted by TMW, at his presentation on Tuesday morning, the 34 year-old defender said: "It is with great pleasure, from the bottom of my heart, that I introduce myself as a Flamengo player. I want to thank all those who are part of this dream. Many people have advised and shown me how big this challenge would have been, which I face with humility.

"These are difficult decisions to make but they are well thought out. I wanted to be here, because I know the greatness of this project and this challenge. Flamengo has always been great and always will be. For me it is another big challenge."

Luiz admits he took his time over deciding his next move after being allowed to come off contract and says his choice was influenced by more than just football.

He added: "I had different scenarios to choose from but I know I made the right decision. I will have a more peaceful life, but I like to do what my heart tells me."

With Arsenal last season, Luiz played 30 games, scoring twice.
