The coronavirus pandemic has forced Flamengo to make some adjustments in order to re-negotiate some of their debts to other clubs.

Back in December, Flamengo agreed to pay Náutico €3m for young striker Thiago, a club-record incoming transfer fee for the second-division side.

“Clube de Regatas do Flamengo inform that the athlete, Thiago Fernandes, will be loaned to Náutico until the end of this year. The player’s contract was extended until the end of 2025.

“With the unpredictability in relation to the youth schedule, the club understands that it will be good for the development and maturation of the athlete, who will compete in Serie B of the Brazilian Championship.

“The club will provide all assistance in the area of health and high performance and will provide professionals to provide necessary support on a daily basis, assist his evolution, and monitor the games.”

As a result, Náutico will postpone all instalments for an entire year, though Flamengo will pay part of the sum that was overdue to the club.

In addition, Flamengo will not only pay Thiago’s full salary for the 2020 campaign, but his wages will be deducted from the transfer fee.

Náutico will continue to own 18% of the player’s economic rights.
