Rui Vitória is the latest name to be linked with the vacant managerial position at Flamengo.

Reports have suggested the Rubro-Negro would prefer to have a Portuguese coach in charge.

The Mengão enjoyed incredible success with Jorge Jesus in 2019, which in turn earned him a move to Benfica.

He left big shoes to fill at the Maracanã, with Spaniard Domènec Torrent and Brazilian duo Rogerio Ceni and Renato Gaúcho all sacked after short periods at the helm since July 2020.

Vitória was installed at Spartak Moscow in May, but his record of just nine wins in 26 games means he is on the verge of being relived of his duties.

Spartak lie ninth in the Russian Premier League, and Monday’s 3-0 defeat at Sochi looks like it will be the final straw for them as they head into their winter break.

According to Portuguese website Maisfutebol (via O Dia) Vitória may not be out of work for long. He was reportedly in the running to replace Jesus when he left, and Flamengo may look to renew that interest now.

The 51-year-old has won titles in both his native land and in Saudi Arabia, including leading Benfica to two Primeira Liga crowns in the middle of the last decade.
