Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim reportedly “vetoed” plans to have Oscar return to Rio de Janeiro on the club plane following Saturday’s 2-0 win at São Paulo.
According to Globo Esporte, Oscar was at Guarulhos Airport expecting to fly with the team before the plug was pulled on the idea.
While the 30-year-old playmaker is expected to ink a loan deal with the Rubro-Negro, Landim was wary of such a public display before all the formalities are completed with Shanghai Port.
GE reports that the Mengão, among other things, must prove there was no “enticement” to the player in relation to the contract which would see him return to his native land until at least December.
Oscar’s current deal with the Chinese club runs to 2024.
Flamengo will hope there are no legal hiccups as they try and tie up any loose ends before the transfer window in Brazil closes on 15 August.
