Rogério Ceni has finally registered his first win as Flamengo manager after a comfortable victory over Coritiba at the Maracanã on Saturday.
Brasileirão Série A
It was welcome result and performance for the Mengão in the wake of their Copa do Brasil exit to Sao Paulo in midweek.
The hosts got off to a perfect start by taking the lead in the third minute with a classic counter-attacking goal.
A clever ball from Éverton Ribeiro sent Bruno Henrique on his way and the attacker combined with Giorgian de Arrascata before heading home from close range.
The Rubro-Negro doubled their lead shortly before the half-hour.
After some neat combination play down the right flank, Mauricio Isla centred for de Arrascata to send what looked like a somewhat mis-hit shot past the wrong-footed Wilson in the Coritiba goal.
The three points were wrapped up with just under 15 minutes to go when left-back Renê ventured forward to notch a rare goal, coming off his weaker right foot!
Mattheus Oliveira scored a consolation goal for the visitors deep into stoppage time, but it couldn’t prevent Flamengo from moving top of the Brasileirão table by a point from Atlético Mineiro.
