Arturo Vidal is reportedly facing a race against time to be fit for Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores final against Athletico Paranaense next weekend.
The veteran midfielder played just over an hour of last Wednesday’s Copa do Brasil final second leg against Corinthians before being replaced by Matheuzinho.
Flamengo went on to lift the trophy after a 6-5 success in a penalty shootout.
Vidal was not named in the Mengão’s squad for Saturday’s 2-1 league win at América-MG, as manager Dorival Júnior rested all his big names after their midweek heroics.
However, according to O Dia, there is now genuine concern that the Chile international will miss the South American club showpiece.
The Rio de Janeiro newspaper reports that Vidal has undergone a procedure to remove fluid from his right ankle.
It also claims that the club will set up a “task force” to ensure that the 35-year-old recovers sufficiently to at least take his place on the bench next Saturday at the Estadio Monumental in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
