Though Flamengo earned a much-needed three points in Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Palmeiras, the victory did not come without bad news.
Rodrigo Caio suffered an injury in the first half and had to be replaced by Gustavo Henrique in the 33rd minute.
On Friday, Flamengo confirmed that the 27-year-old suffered an injury to his adductor muscle in his right thigh.
It is worth mentioning that, since returning from physical problems, Rodrigo Caio is the only centre-back treated as an absolute starter under Rogério Ceni.
In the last game, for example, the coach decided to use Willian Arão in the back, even though Thuler, Gustavo Henrique and Natan were available.
Most likely, Gustavo Henrique will be inserted into the starting XI next to Willian Arão, who was selected to the team of the week, even though he was playing out of position.
With Internacional taking down São Paulo earlier in the week, Flamengo are now just four points from the top spot ahead of Sunday’s duel with Athletico-PR, while still having a match in hand with eight games to play.
