Gabriel Barbosa will soon be good enough to return to Europe and play for one of the continent’s biggest clubs.

That is the view, at least, of Flamengo head coach Jorge Jesus after managing the Inter striker for the last eight months.

Gabigol is on loan in Brazil until 31 December and has scored nine goals in 10 league games so far this season.

Speaking to the Copa Libertadores’ official site, Jesus said: “He’s better than I thought before I started working with him. He’s learned so much.

“Gabigol has a few qualities that only great players have and he’s still young. He won’t stay at Flamengo for long.

“If he keeps playing like this, in the future he’ll move to one of those European clubs with lots of money.

Inter spent €30 million on Gabigol in 2016 but the former Santos man flopped in his one season at San Siro.

Jesus wanted to bring him to Sporting Lisbon the following season but eventually he joined their rivals Benfica instead.

“Gabigol is a very intelligent player who knows how to create space for himself to take shots,” Jesus continued.

“He takes a lot of risks when he plays and he’s quick. If you’re not quick as a striker nowadays it doesn’t matter how good your technique is, you don’t stand much of a chance of reaching the top.”

Dynamo Moscow, Sevilla and Villarreal are among the European clubs linked with Gabigol this summer.
