Flamengo have accepted that they will not be able to have Gabigol’s red card overturned before the second leg of the Carioca final against Fluminense.
Gabigol was shown his second yellow card of the match deep into stoppage time as he was being substituted off the pitch, with the official having determined he committed a time-wasting offence.
The Flamengo legal department have analysed the situation and determined that his automatic suspension is mandatory and the only case they would have is in the case of mistaken identity, which is obviously not a consideration.
Following the first leg, Gabigol vented his frustration on social media.
“Just like that, they take you out of a final! Disrespect for your work, your team, and your family that supports you in every game! A little respect, and responsibility, please!”
Meanwhile, Brazilian free-to-air commercial broadcaster SBT have landed the rights to air the second leg, which will take place this Wednesday.
In addition, FlaTV will air the match for free on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
