Flamengo manager Renato Gaúcho could have a severely depleted squad to choose from for Sunday’s Brasileirão battle with Palmeiras.
The Rubro-Negro have not played in a fortnight due to the international break, but they will likely resume action in much worse standing than when they signed off with a 4-0 trouncing of Santos.
According to Gazeta Esportiva, veteran duo Filipe Luís and Diego Ribas have been ruled out with muscle issues.
Also on the treatment table is attacker Bruno Henrique, who has been injured since being replaced during the the Copa do Brasil victory over Grêmio on 25 August.
On top of that, Léo Pereira and Willian Arão only resumed training on Friday, while Rodrigo Caio and left-back Renê have yet to play since being sidelined with long-term problems.
There is also the issue of the condition of the players returning from international duty.
Paraguay’s Robert Piris Da Motta has checked back in with the Mengão, but Gabriel Barbosa and Éverton Ribeiro (both Brazil), Giorgian de Arrascaeta (Uruguay), and Mauricio Isla (Chile) are expected to head directly to São Paulo to link up with the squad on Saturday.
Given all the variables, it is extremely difficult to anticipate what XI Gaúcho will opt for at the Allianz Parque.
