Flamengo’s Renato Gaúcho has the chance to become the manager with the joint-best winning record in Copa Libertadores history on Wednesday.
The 59-year-old, who is best known for his three stints in charge of Grêmio, had 44 wins in the competition to his credit when he took over the Rubro-Negro in July.
Since then, he has led the Mengão to victories in both legs over Defensa y Justicia and Olimpia.
Should Fla triumph over Ecuador’s Barcelona SC in the first leg of their Libertadores semi-final, Gaúcho will draw level with Colobian legend Gabriel Uribe on 49 wins.
Barcelona SC come into the game on the back of 3-2 success over Deportiva Cuenca last Friday, but a relatively disappointing start to the season sees them down in seventh in their domestic Serie A.
Flamengo, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 home defeat by Grêmio in the Brasileirão on Sunday.
