“We are more together than ever. It is a great joy for me. I never hid how much I have identified with Flamengo, which has been growing year after year.
“This renewal means a lot to me, to continue wearing the sacred cloak. I am happy and I will continue to give my life for the club, which is what I have done with great pleasure and joy.
“I appreciate the affection of everyone and we are going to be competing for a lot more going forward.”
Diego joined Flamengo in 2016. Since then, he has won a number of titles, including the Copa Libertadores (2019), the Brasileirão (2019), the Supercopa do Brasil (2020), the Recopa Sudamericana (2020) and three Carioca Championships (2017, 2019, and 2020).
The next step for Flamengo will be to renew star goalkeeper Diego Alves, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the year.
The 35-year-old wants at least a two-year deal and has already made it clear that he and the club are in the first steps of negotiations.
