Flamengo defeated São Paulo by a 1-0 scoreline on Wednesday night to win 4-1 on aggregate and clinch a spot in the Copa do Brasil final.
Scorers: Arrascaeta 36′
Flamengo will now await tomorrow’s contest between Fluminense and Corinthians to see who they will face on October 12th and 19th. The first leg finished in a 2-2 draw.
Giorgian de Arrascaeta scored the only goal of the match in the first half, with Éverton Ribeiro pulling off a beautiful move and an equally glorious pass to set the Uruguayan free to carefully dispatch the ball into the bottom corner.
Flamengo goalkeeper Santos was spectacular on the night, making six saves to ensure their progress to their third final of 2022 following the Carioca and the upcoming Copa Libertadores.
The match was also Gabigol’s 200th with the club. The superstar striker was presented with a ceremonial jersey before the match.
On top of the glory of winning the final, a whopping R$60m ($11.6m) will go to the champion of the Copa do Brasil while the runner-up will pocket R$25m ($4.85m).
Flamengo last won the Copa do Brasil in 2013 and last appeared in the final back in 2017, when they fell to Cruzeiro by way of a penalty shootout.
