After a dramatic midweek of Coppa Italia semi-final action in the peninsula, domestic matters now turn to Serie A once more.

Here are five reasons to tune into the action.

Defences shining in Rome

Often here, we advocate for tuning in to entertaining, exciting attacking sides doing what they do best but there is something for everyone in Serie A - including purists who relish the joy that can found in a game well defended.

For those people, we highly recommend catching the action at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night when two of the division's best sides at the back meet as Roma welcome Juventus to town.

No team has conceded fewer goals from open play this season than these teams, with Juventus (17) narrowly ahead of Roma's (18) tally - and much of that can be attributed to their goalkeepers.

With 12 apiece, no other 'keeper in the division has kept more clean sheets than Mile Svilar and Michele De Gregorio, while only Augsburg's hot prospect Finn Dahmen has a higher save percentage and kept more clean sheets than Svilar out of anyone in Europe's top five leagues for the current campaign.

Last train for Europe

Milan's meeting with Fiorentina is a huge one for both clubs and their European ambitions - something backed by ticket sales, with over 70,000 set to descend on San Siro on Saturday night in a bid to back their respective sides in a potential six-pointer for continental competition.

Prior to kick-off, Fiorentina sit in eighth, just one place behind Roma in sixth in the final European position (Conference League football), while Milan are one place and four points behind tomorrow's opponents.

Particularly for the Rossoneri, this is viewed as last chance saloon time, with a win propelling them back into contention for a top six finish, while anything less would be a potentially fatal blow.

The gravity of the occasion alone makes this appointment viewing.

Making his Mark(o)

When Inter re-signed Marko Arnautović in the summer of 2023, it wasn't to a great deal of excitement or fanfare, particularly when more exciting attacking talents like Marcus Thuram arrived in the same window.

But during that time, the veteran forward has proven to be a steady and reliable performer when called upon - making him one of more underrated members of Simone Inzaghi's star-studded squad and he could make some history for himself against Parma.

He has found the net in each of his last three Serie A appearances and each goal has been vital given that the Nerazzurri won all of those contests by a single goal.

Never before in his career has he found the net in more consecutive games in Europe's top five leagues. Will he prove vital again if called upon?

Lukaku looking dangerous

It seems to be going somewhat under the radar but Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed a productive time of things since the turn of the year.

In 2025, only Atalanta ace Mateo Retegui has been involved in more goals than the Belgian in Serie A, with Lukaku providing five goals and four assists during that time - including his 400th career strike in his most recent outing.

And against an in-form and dangerous Bologna, expect him to hit the net because he always does when he comes face-to-face with the Felsinei.

He has netted five goals in five games against them and averages a goal every 81 minutes - his second best goals to minutes ratio against any side in Italy's top flight.

Lazio boss begins crunch run

A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport states that Lazio's clash with Atalanta is the beginning of a four-game gauntlet that will decide the future of coach Marco Baroni.

That seemed very unlikely just four months ago when the Aquile sat three points behind this weekend's opponents, who were themselves top of the table at that time.

But things have gone awry since then, sliding out of the Champions League places, falling behind rivals Roma and exiting the Coppa Italia and as a result the club will consider their options if the upcoming run of games is unfavourable.

This trip to Lombardy also promises action aplenty - the last 11 meetings between the teams in Bergamo have produced 41 goals for an average of an incredible 3.7 per game. More of the same please.
