Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, Bayern Munich’s Mathijs de Ligt, Newcastle’s Sven Botman, PSV’s Joey Veerman and Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen have all been sent home, and will play no part in Friday’s clash with France or Monday’s meeting with Gibraltar.

Coach Louis van Gaal has called up three replacements to replace the five departing players. They are Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, Inter’s Stefan De Vrij and Vitesse’s Kjell Scherpen.

The three players will join up with the national team in Paris, leaving Van Gaal with a 23-man squad to pick from.
