It’s that time of the year again, when transfer rumours are rife and Celtic’s hierarchy are assessing a variety of options that could potentially take the team up a level next season.

It’s also a worrying time for the club, particularly with the likes of Matt O’Riley being linked with moves elsewhere and some other key players being looked at by clubs.

After winning the Scottish Premiership once again last season, though, Celtic will surely be able to go again and acquire the services of players who are desperate to play for one of the biggest clubs around. After all, Celtic will be expected to retain the title, with fans everywhere likely to be backing them on forums online and through some football betting escapades. Likewise, Brendan Rodgers’ side will be hoping to stay in the Champions League a bit longer than they did last time around. In order to achieve this, though, a sprinkling of quality is needed.

For any anxious members of the Celtic family, a number of exciting rumours are beginning to emerge as the club looks to build on last season’s successes. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at five players Celtic are reportedly considering snapping up in the coming weeks.

Caoimhin Kelleher is at the top of Celtic’s list

Numerous reports are suggesting that Liverpool’s Irish goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, is interested in a move to Celtic. Following Joe Hart’s retirement, Celtic need a goalkeeper they can rely on for next season. Although the Liverpool stopper has been in and out of the team at Anfield, he has shown on a number of occasions that he’s a safe pair of hands.

Additionally, with the lure of Champions League football, the Liverpool back-up could end up at Parkhead in the coming weeks. The academy graduate is clearly hungry to succeed, but he requires consistent game time if he is to realise his undoubted potential. Celtic could, therefore, be one of the best options on the table right now, particularly as Kelleher is keen on becoming the first-choice goalkeeper somewhere.

Speaking to The Athletic recently, he said: “I proved that I’m good enough to play in the Premier League – I’m comfortable there. I’ve always had that belief in myself. Proving it to people was satisfying. I’ve had such an amazing time at Liverpool. It’s been a crazy journey for me and one that I’ve absolutely loved. I love the club, I love the fans, and I have a great relationship with the players and the staff. Whether it’s here at Liverpool or somewhere else, I do feel the next step for me is to be a number one.”

Scott McKenna is being linked with a move to Celtic

Celtic need to add some defensive reinforcements to their team, and it appears as though Scott McKenna could be the man they’re after. A player the club has been linked for a few years now, the Nottingham Forest centre-back is a free agent at the end of June and is said to have a number of enticing options, with Celtic being one of them. The Glasgow giants will surely appeal to the 35-times capped 27-year-old, although any move probably won’t materialise until after the Euro 2024 finals.

Could Kieran Tierney make a return to the club?

It’s fair to say that Kieran Tierney’s move to Arsenal hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Numerous injury issues and the signing of top players in his position, such as Oleksandr Zinchenko, resulted in the Scottish international being loaned to Spanish side Real Sociedad last season. Tierney is currently on Scotland duty with Steve Clarke’s men in Germany, but once the tournament is over, a return home to Celtic might be what he needs.

Whether or not Celtic have the funds to obtain his services once again is unknown, but the former fans’ favourite could certainly be an option. According to reports, the Gunners are ready to cut their losses and are open to offers of around £10 million for the 27-year-old. A glorious return to Celtic Park could be on the cards, although there are numerous stumbling blocks in the way, most notably around his transfer fee and the player’s wages. Still, stranger things have happened.

Both Celtic and theRangers are in for Tommy Conway

Somewhat unsurprisingly, given his undoubted ability, Bristol City’s Tommy Conway was always likely to interest a number of sides this summer. Celtic are one of them, while Rangers are also assessing the Robins star. Conway reportedly isn’t interested in extending his stay with the Championship side, with both Celtic and Rangers reportedly looking at exploiting a cross-border loophole to land him for as little as £300,000 in 12 months time.

While a future deal is on the table, Celtic could look to land their man beforehand, particularly should other clubs look to snap him up this summer. Wolves are apparently looking at him, a development that could force Celtic’s hand somewhat. Conway is a player on a mission after climbing up through the leagues from the likes of Concord Rangers and turning it on in one of the most competitive domestic competitions around. Should Celtic manage to get him signed up, it would represent a shrewd piece of business.

Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc, who came through the ranks at Real Madrid before moving to Bayern Munich’s youth set up on a free transfer, is another defender Celtic are reportedly mulling over. Aged 23, the Austrian impressed during the second half of the season on loan with RB Salzburg. Now, though, with the ball-playing centre-back keen to find a place he can call home, Celtic appear to be one of his preferred destinations. Celtic’s interest is concrete, although Salzburg have an option to buy the player following his loan spell at the club.
