Chelsea meet Arsenal in a cracker of a London derby this evening, as the capital rivals go head-to-head at the Emirates.

It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures on the Premier League calendar and their latest showdown will be no different, as an improving Chelsea look to dent Arsenal’s title challenge.

Chelsea against Arsenal is rarely short of entertainment and there have been some unforgettable goals scored in clashes between the teams.

Nigel Winterburn (1997)

Nigel Winterburn didn’t score often, finding the net just 12 times during an Arsenal career that spanned 13 years.

The left-back was a fixture in the Gunners team during the late eighties and nineties, a defender with real quality in possession and an engine to bomb forward from deep.

He produced one of his most memorable moments in an Arsenal shirt at Stamford Bridge in 1997, as Winterburn unleashed a thunderous 89th-minute effort to seal a 3-2 win for the Gunners.

It was a win that continued Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, as the north Londoners went on to win the title in Arsene Wenger’s first full season in charge.

Kanu (1999)

Arguably the most iconic individual performance this fixture has seen in the Premier League era, Kanu completed a comeback for Arsenal at Chelsea in stunning fashion.

The Nigerian hit a 15-minute hat-trick as Arsenal came from two goals down to beat the Blues, with his third a moment of magic as the forward danced around the challenge of Ed de Goey on the byline and bent a beautiful finish in from an acute angle.

Kanu was capable of the spectacular, never more so than a hat-trick for the ages to down Chelsea.

Michael Essien (2006)

Yeah, team goals are nice to watch. Solo goals even better. But is there anything like watching a footballer send a heat-seeking missile into the top corner?

Michael Essien unleashed this effort to salvage Chelsea a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in December 2006. A ludicrous outside-of-the-boot goal from the Blues’ ‘Bison’.

Alex (2010)

On the subject of thunderbastards…

Alex could hit them. And we mean really hit them.

The Brazilian’s blast against Arsenal saw him channel his inner-Roberto Carlos to secure Chelsea a 2-0 win over the league-leading Gunners.

Eden Hazard (2017)

Eden Hazard had a habit of making defenders look foolish across seven seasons at Chelsea, with the Belgian’s balance, deceptive strength, and nimble footwork often leaving opposition in his wake.

Hazard scored a special solo goal as Chelsea beat Arsenal in 2016/17, a mesmeric individual effort that saw the winger embarrass an entire Arsenal backline.

Having picked up the ball inside his own half, Hazard skipped past the challenge of Laurent Koscielny in the centre circle, shrugged Francis Coquelin to the turf, before beating Koscielny a second time and firing home.

He travelled 52 yards in possession of the ball, an unstoppable run from one of the most watchable Premier League players of his era.
