Barcelona bagged their third win in a row in La Liga as they secured a 3-1 victory over Celta Vigo at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

A goal from Memphis Depay and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace was enough to see the Catalans get over the line against a Celta Vigo side that was reduced to ten men in the second half following Jeison Murillo’s red card.

The victory takes Xavi Hernandez’s men one step closer to finishing second in the La Liga standings, which would earn them a place in the Supercopa de Espana for next season, which in turn will bring in revenue for the club.

The result also means that Barcelona are undefeated in their 33 La Liga matches played on a Tuesday (W23 D10). It is the best unbeaten record for a team on a specific day in the history of the competition.

Memphis, Auba lead the way

With his goal on the night, Memphis Depay took his tally for the season to 13 goals across all competitions, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now has netted 12 times in all competitions since arriving in January.

Interestingly, nine of Memphis’ 13 goals for Barcelona this term have come at Camp Nou, whereas nine of Aubameyang’s 12 have been away from home.

Furthermore, Aubameyang’s goalscoring rate of one strike every 83 minutes in La Liga is the second-best in the competition this season. Only Ansu Fati (one goal in 61 minutes) has a better scoring rate in the Spanish top flight.

Aubameyang’s brace against Celta Vigo meant that he has now netted 11 goals in La Liga since his debut in February. It means that he has surpassed Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema (9) as the top scorer in the competition during this period.

In addition to that, the former Arsenal captain also has the best difference between goals scored and xG (+3.9) in the competition.

Dembele makes a difference

On Tuesday, Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele emerged as a difference-maker yet again as he set up two goals against Celta Vigo, first assisting Memphis for the opener before grabbing the assist for Aubameyang’s second after the half-time break.

With that, Dembele has now provided ten La Liga assists since the start of 2022, which is more than any other player in the Top 5 European leagues. Lionel Messi has managed nine for PSG during this period.
