Manchester City hit RB Leipzig with the old one-two punch in their Champions League round of 16 second leg on Tuesday.
City dominated early stages at the Etihad Stadium and were handed the chance to take the lead in controversial circumstances when a penalty was awarded by VAR for a handball against Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs.
Not everybody thought it was the correct decision …
But Erling Haaland had no complaints as he stepped up and slotted into the bottom corner from the spot.
And less than two minutes later it was 2-0, as Kevin De Bruyne rattled the crossbar with a super effort, and Haaland was in the perfect position to head home the rebound.
That was the Norwegian’s 30th Champions League goal, and he made a small piece of history in the process …
And his night got even better when he completed his hat-trick to make it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time, before adding a fourth and fifth in the second half.
None of his goals were prettiest he’s ever scored, but he won’t mind one bit.
Absolute machine.
