As Barcelona gear up to take on Real Sociedad within the familiar confines of their home turf come Monday, it has surfaced that as many as five players stand critically close to facing suspension.

Among these are notable names such as Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Ilkay Gundogan, Sergi Roberto, and Oriol Romeu.

Should any of the aforementioned individuals receive a cautionary yellow card during the forthcoming clash against Sociedad, the consequence would entail an immediate suspension from participation in the subsequent La Liga fixture, slated against Almeria on Friday, May 16th.

Victory is a must for Barcelona

After losing to Girona 2-4 last time out, there is absolutely no margin for error for Xavi and his team. A defeat or even a draw against Sociedad would derail them from their pursuit of finishing second this season.

Interestingly enough, however, Girona recently dropped points against Alaves after Jon Guridi scored late to make it 2-2 for the latter.

As things stand, Barcelona are two points behind Girona, but have a game in hand. A victory on Monday would steer them a point clear of their rivals, but from there on, the team from Catalonia just cannot afford to make any more errors.

As in the calendar, after the Sociedad game, Barcelona are scheduled to play Almeria, Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla.

On the contrary, Girona have a rather difficult run, with Michel’s team set to face Villarreal, Valencia and Granada.
